At Hyphn, our mission is to transform the environments where people connect, work, and learn by integrating people, place, and technology. Every month, we’ll be celebrating the people and teams who bring that mission to life through the new Hyphn Highlight Series.

This monthly recognition series is about shining a light on the innovation, grit, and creativity of individuals and small teams who are making a lasting impact on clients, projects, and colleagues alike. For our inaugural feature, we’re thrilled to highlight our Fringe Styling Team, the group behind the finishing touches that turn workspaces into inspired environments.

Fringe brings heart, artistry, and fearlessness to every project, and their recent work at Longfellow Bioterra is a perfect example of how they elevate the Hyphn experience. Get to know the team through their own words in this Q&A.

Q: What recent project or accomplishment are you most proud of?

A: We just finished the Fringe install at Longfellow Bioterra, a life sciences facility with amenity spaces, and it was a project that pushed our creative limits. The concept was strong from the start: borrowing from trees, canopies, and the uplifting breadth of the sky.

Within that vision, we leaned into feature walls as moments of magic. Our favorite is the Vintage Lantern Wall—nostalgic, whimsical, enchanting all at once. It transported us back to childhood sleepovers in a treehouse, with a sleeping bag, book, and a little light.

What really matters to us is creating spaces that evoke whimsy, play, and emotion. Those are the designs we are most proud of. When someone pauses to soak it in… when they smile because a space surprises them—that’s when every ounce of effort feels worth it.

Q: How do you see your role advancing Hyphn’s mission of integrating people, place, and technology?

A: Fringe is the finishing touch that elevates furniture, technology, and ambiance – adding texture, movement, and a vibe that invites people to linger, interact, and connect.

Q: Who did you collaborate with across Hyphn, and what made it successful?

A: Alegra Stickney, an Account Executive at Hyphn, had an existing relationship with the developer and was already working on the furniture in collaboration with them. As a supporter of Fringe, she also held a budget for this service alongside the furniture work, which enabled us to get involved right from the earliest stages.

The project was somewhat unique—it unfolded over 34 phases spanning roughly a year. When the Fringe team joined, we revised the budget with the client and added services as we progressed through the various areas of the space.

In one section, we assumed full responsibility for furniture and all Fringe design elements, delivering a cohesive, immersive environment. On the opposite side, we aligned our selections with those of the design firm, ensuring harmony between our work and their curated furniture choices. Although coordinating with external vendors added complexity, we prioritized developing a deep understanding of the overall vision. This understanding allowed us to integrate our embellishments and design elements smoothly, maintaining consistent aesthetics throughout the space.

With the full support of our in-house installation team and in-house photographer and Senior Designer, Charlene Warren, we installed all design elements across the space and captured final photography to present to the client.

Q: If your team had a “superpower,” what would it be?

A: One of the Fringe superpowers would be fearlessness. We are part of a very hands-on team, and we thrive when there are constraints—budget, timeline, space, whatever they are. Rather than see limitations as roadblocks, we treat them as design prompts. That “we’ll figure it out” attitude is part of who we are.

It’s helped us push boundaries on projects, making sure each design is not only beautiful but also uniquely tailored to the client’s identity. Over the years, it’s become part of how we approach every brief: not asking if something is possible, but how we can make it happen.

Q: What’s one thing you wish more people understood about your Fringe Styling role?

A: We want people to understand the passion and grit behind our work. When you see the finished project or the staged photos, you don’t see what it took behind the scenes—every late night, every workaround, every moment we questioned whether we could pull it off. This business isn’t for the faint of heart.

We often handle everything ourselves: sourcing from multiple vendors, receiving shipments, de-stickering, hauling, sometimes doing much of the physical work in-house. On install days we might take 20,000 steps, climb on counters, lay out a shelf multiple times, then rip it out and redo it. There’s literal blood, sweat, and tears in getting something done right.

But that’s what defines us. That unwavering “we’ll figure it out” attitude isn’t just a tagline—it’s how we build every design, every day, with integrity and commitment.
